Where would humanity be without dogs? As a writer, dogs play an important role in my characters’ lives. In my own home, dogs are essential. Every day, I marvel at their intelligence, commitment, and sheer love for human beings.
I also love that they do things to remind us that they’re still “all too canine,” such as shedding their dignity to bark at squirrels, or pulling at the leash to sniff another dog, or eating something disgusting.
Real life dog stories are just blurbs about the strange wonderfulness of dogs and how capable they are of surprising us.
My own book, A Dog’s Religion, explores the lives of shelter dogs waiting for their master to show up and adopt them.
